Noah's Exploration 7

Looking back on The Things They Carried makes me think of the troubles of war. My favorite chapter in the book was Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong. I found it fascinating to read about the complete transformation of an innocent girl like Mary Anne. The story makes you wonder how often transformations like this occur in a wartime setting.

In order to complete this assignment, I have to break both the first and the second rules of the club headed by the character I have chosen. The character who I have chosen to write about is Tyler Durden from Fight Club. Tyler Durden is my favorite movie character because he has the ability to let slide all things that truly do not matter. Fight Club was made in the 90s, but 20 years later, the messages that Tyler shares with the members of Fight Club applies now more than ever. Tyler created Fight Club to provide a sense of pain, a sense of feeling to a society numbed by product placement, advertisements, social networking, and other things that separate us from the lives that we should be living.

  2. I really liked that chapter too, it showed how the war can strip someone of their innocence so fast and completely transform them. I have not seen fight club but he seems like an interesting character

  3. I liked fight club too, that movie really did show you that you should find a sense of something else outside of products and commercialism. It's good to be reminded that we are free to do what we want in life.

  4. I also liked the Sweetheart of the Song Tra bong. I almost wrote about it, but I did find it very odd and interesting how quickly Mary Anne changed into a whole different character.
