The Tet offensive was when 70,000 north Vietnamese soldiers attack villages in southern Vietnam on January 31 1968. Leaded by general Vo Nguyen Giap, who was the leader of a communist group in Vietnam. this attack was to start a rebellion in the southern Vietnamese and to get the US to have less support for the Saigon regime. Even though the attack was held off it shocked the american media this really created more disbelief in america on the Vietnam war. At the end the North Vietnamese took the victory causing a turning point in the Vietnam war. The Tet Offensive was an attempt to make a turning point in the war by the Viet Cong which was the Northern Vietnamese and a group of communist southern Vietnamese. Prior to the Tet Offensive the communist Vietnamese attack american camps in 1967. The Tet offensive took place in the morning of January 31, 1968 where the general commanded attacks of 13 cities in southern Vietnam. A day later the Viet Cong attacked many target buildings including US Government buildings and bases in Southern Vietnam. Since the Viet cong were spread all over southern Vietnam they were spread thin so most of the attacks were held off by the Americans("Tet Offensive." History.com. A&E Television Networks, n.d. Web. 11 Feb. 2015.). Over all this Attack done by the Viet Cong was a huge turning point for the Vietnam war, that really started a movement in the american people to not support the war. It was a huge moment in history that some say was the last straw on the camels back for the United states in the Vietnam war.( "Tet Offensive." Tet Offensive. N.p., n.d. Web. 19 Feb. 2015.)
