This is a video of the song that got popular on YouTube and really spread his music. In some ways, the way this video was shot, recorded and composed by BD has as much to do with the success as the song. Lesson to learn: Content must be good, but presentation and composition of the message is very important too.

Dub FX started out as a street performer using his pedal and microphone to express himself through his different style of music. He didn't care what people would think of him and didn't try to please anyone, he was just doing what he liked. This is really inspiring because it lets people know that they shouldn't worry about what others might think of them, they should just be themselves. People will like you for you and what you enjoy doing. I love when he talked about how he just threw himself out there because that is the only way to be heard. Nothing's going to happen if you just sit at home, you have to get out there and make yourself heard. He writes about freedom, freedom of speech, etc. and he slowly made his way up from nothing and now he is really popular and his music is loved by people all across the world. My favorite quote from the video was, "Expect the unexpected" because you never know what's going to happen. You just have to roll with the punches and take what you can get. He had no idea he would become as big as he is today, it was completely unexpected.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up a certain way influences individuals to act in a certain manner. Everybody expresses how their life was different in different ways. According to Dub FX it is through music. His music is a mix of rap and hip hop. He draws up his lyrics through experience and on the spot. This is what makes him unique. That uniqueness is shown in the video with the rapid light effects and random videos of past experiences within the video. He goes around speaking his words and selling a few CD's along with meeting with the public. He continually expressed people to "be themselves" which is great. I would have to disagree with some of his notions. First of all would be the holding up the fist in the air. I see that as a sign of rebellion. Also with his lyrics, they sort of say that you can do anything without consequence when in reality this is not true. If I had kids I am not sure I would want them listening to his music. I do believe that you should chase your dreams but if things get in your way do not persist on those things instead find the best way possible.
ReplyDeleteI found the documentary on Dub FX interesting and inspirational. Dub FX started his music career in Australia as a street performer. He uses a loop pedal and effects pedal to enhance his music and make it unique. I think Dub FX is inspiring because he sings about what he feels or wants and doesn't let anyone influence the way he does his music. Also him starting out as a street performer and gaining the recognition he has today is truly inspiring in itself. Dub FX said "Nothing happens from sitting and talking about it, you gotta just do it". I thought that was interesting because so many people "talk" about their dreams but are afraid to pursue them and he wasn't afraid to follow his dreams, he got up and did it and achieve success.
ReplyDeleteDub FX is an excellent example of doing what you love and following your dreams. I found his free spirit intriguing and his music interesting. Dub FX is a solo artist from Australia who uses pedals to generate his music. His music is hard to describe as it is very unique. His music contains elements of hip hop, reggae, and even punk themes. As a fan of reggae and punk, I very much enjoyed his musical concoction. In this day and age it is extremely refreshing to listen to an artist who is not afraid of making something a little weird. Dub FX clearly has an open mind when it comes to music, as shone through his use of a saxophone in a reggae/hip hop song in Flow. One of my favorite things about Dub FX was his "I don't care what anybody thinks" attitude. I also love his quote “If you don’t throw yourself out there, nothing is ever going to happen.” Most artists are all about pleasing their fans or making money; however, Dub FX is primarily concerned with doing what he loves.
ReplyDelete"Nothing happens from sitting around and talking about it"- you have to get out and do it! This quote really stood out to me because I can relate to having to put your work out into the open. Practicing and practicing while no one is watching is good, but how will you ever become known? I thought one image detail that was super cool was showing him at all the different places: and how some places were packed and some were pretty bare. That shows that he's not just talk and that you do have to give it you're all if you want the most out of anything/any goal you're striving toward. Showing him perform to a full crowd and to a few people is very awesome, it shows that he is persistent in his goals but flexible in how he attacks it!
ReplyDeleteDub FX travels the world and plays in the streets of where ever he wants to go which is incredible because he loves doing that with little to no money and fame. The fame and money will come eventually with him but that was never his intentions when he started performing his music in the streets. He loves to make and produce music that he likes and never cared if people would like him or not. It’s incredible that he can do what he loves everyday and excel at it like he is a professional performer. I like that he has submersed himself with his passion and has never looked back and one thing he said that stuck with me was “if you don’t throw yourself out there, nothing is ever going to happen.” This stuck with me because I am more of a passive person and sometimes it is best to just throw yourself out there and do whatever you can to get where you want to be. The video showed some places he has traveled to and performed which is all over the world. I hope he will become very famous and tour the United States because I would like to see him perform.
ReplyDeleteDub FX is an example of someone who went after what he wanted without backing down. He said, "If you don't throw yourself out there, nothing is ever going to happen." It sounds simple, but it's true. He has a passion for music and performing, and works hard to be so great at it. He understands that nothing is ever just handed to you and that you have to do everything you can to get the things you want. Most people don't get to do the things they love because they are too afraid to truly go after what they want, but Dub FX isn't afraid to say, "hey, I really want this" and do everything he can to get it.
ReplyDeleteDub FX is an awesome example of living your dream. He was just an average guy making music and doing what he loves and realized it wouldn't be hard to improve it and share it with the rest of the world. He started off with his "music loop", his instrument with the three pedals that control the sounds and his voice, too. Attached is his microphone, and that is all he needs. He announced his street for the very first time, and when he arrived, there was a hugs crowd of people anxiously awaiting his arrival. He started to sing and the people loved it! His popularity started to grow, and so did his inspiration. He started traveling around the world performing for countries everywhere. He said "If you don't throw yourself out there, nothing is ever going to happen." I think this says a lot about chasing your dream and making it true.
ReplyDeleteDub FX is a great example of how music can set a good example. He made music that had meaning and didn't include anything about drugs. In the video it showed how he wasn't rich and that he had to set up his own equipment. Now days singers have people to set up their equipment for them but this video shows how Dub FX has been getting by on his own. This created his image of being a down to earth and kind person. He also enjoyed singing he said that he sang just for the joy of his fans. Dub FX is an incredible person and sings music the way it should be. It shouldn't be like current music that just talks about drugs.
ReplyDeleteI truly believe Dub FX shows how the music industry does not always have to be about such negative things or degrading certain people. He shows how to be passionate about something, even if it isn't popular. However, he made it popular. He has given shows all over Europe with his pedal type music. His type of music is very interesting to see and watch. Due to his inspiration from another pedal artist, he has truly made a name for himself. The interviews with Dub FX while he talked about his experience were what stood out to me the most because he seemed very humbled by his recent rise to fame and also seemed very down to earth with everything. He seemed very enthralled in what he is doing for the aspect of pedal music and wants to continue to perform to spread this different ype of music. Another important detail of the video is how they showed both different types of performances. They began with him performing in the streets and ended with him performing on a stage. This shows how he grew as a performer and also his rising popularity and fame.
ReplyDeleteDub FX is a street musician. He lives in Vienna, Austria, however he travels all over Europe to preform. Dub FX uses a combination of pedals to make his unique sound. He doesn't rehearse his sound and often times makes up songs on the spot. He also preforms in big open spaces on the street, often those places look like he is around a park or somewhere that has enough space for the hundreds of fans who come out to watch him. I think that what he does is a risk. Dub FX said "If you don't throw yourself out there you are never going to get anything". I agree with this statement and believe that you have to take risks in life to have a life. Dub FX has taken those risks and he has made himself very happy. I take inspiration from that.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the DUBFX video, i was left wondering how hard it would be to throw yourself out there and make music. As someone who still plays an instrument, its tough sometimes to play in front of anyone that isn't yourself. Being able to take a step back and realize that you have a goal and then being able to accomplish that goal is amazing. The sound is interesting, but it's unique to DUB. To quote not just Dub fx but also some of my classmates "If you don't throw yourself out there, you are never going to get anything". This isn't just a phrase or saying, it's a way of life this artist chose to live by in starting this endeavor.
ReplyDeleteDub fx is an artist from Austria, he goes all of over Europe and preforms. He uses pedals to make loops to produce background music that he raps on top of. He loves preforming in the street, doing what he loves to do and he thinks its great people are interested in his music. he says "If you dont put yourself out there, nothing is going to happen" he believes in going out there and doing what you love. I think his story is awesome because he picked up what he loved and ran with it.
ReplyDeleteDub FX is a musician who performs live music on the streets of cities in Europe and Australia. He travels from city to city setting up on street corners and local parks creating his music, which he does with the help of petals he uses to create different sounds. Until recently he started announcing when and where he would be playing so others could come listen and watch him create his music. Dub FX has chosen to create his music simply because it is what he enjoys doing, and that is what he pours his heart into. The image I thought was the most meaningful was Dub FX playing for a crowd in Belgium. You could see the passion he had for the music and he felt at home. He said he loves it [performing] because he can do what he loves through his fans enjoyment. The crowd was in tune with FX and let his music move them. During the documentary he said "You have to get out and do I, nothing happens from sitting around", this quote made me realize even more that he has taken so many chances and sacrificed so much just to do what he loves.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the Dub FX video, i found it interesting that he was able to not only control all the music that was played but he was able to configure his whole body into the performance. An image that stood out to me was when Dub FX was performing multiple free concerts, just to share what he loved. I think it says a lot about artists who are able to do this because it means more to them to share what they love instead of making a profit. A quote that really stood out to me was "you gotta just do it, nothing happens from sitting around talking about it" there is nothing i agree with more, and this artist showed that. He didn't wait to be discovered, he took the opportunity into his own hands and because of that he surprised himself with how popular he became around Europe.
