The two lines that stuck with me from the readings today were both from "The Lanyard" by Billy Collins. The first being: "bouncing from typewriter to piano" And the second being: "I had never seen anyone use a lanyard" These both left an impression on me for different reasons. The first one because I can relate to that feeling of boredom/not being able to sit still. The second one because this is where I started to notice that this poem was "funny" and/or sarcastic. I did like this poem, I thought that the tone was very interesting, but also very specific: it could easily be taken another way (like lanyards would be a very serious matter.) I also really like that we were able to watch the author read it! That really helped me understand his purpose of the poem.

Hi Nina! I am so jealous you are a figure skater, that is too cool. I can not skate for the life of me haha im always the scared one on the wall because i just suffered a crazy wipeout. I totally respect and admire your talent! and also think its cool that you share your talent by coaching others
ReplyDeleteHi Nina, I think it's really cool that you're a professional figure skater. It seems like it is a lot of hard work when I watch some professional skaters on tv. The poem "The Lanyard" also stood out to me for partly the same reasons because you also thought that it was funny.
ReplyDeleteHi Nina, it is great that you are a figure skater and also that you help coach hockey teams! I have been playing hockey for many years myself, also I have family that lives in Dayton so I know that Columbus to Dayton drive very well. I liked the two lines that you picked out, the second one didn't stand out to me that much until you picked it out. It really brought out the innocence of the author as a child.
ReplyDeleteHi Nina, I used to want to be figure skater, but then I realized I am terrible at skating. I still love watching it when it is on the TV though. That is such a cool thing to have done.
