Exploration Two by Tia

Hello, my name is Tia Lyons. I am a full time student and mother to a five year old girl named Lillee. My major is Social Work and I hope to some day become an addictions counselor. I am always busy and on the go with either activities for me or my daughter but when I have free time I enjoy Arrowhead hunting. I also spend my weekends volunteering at a local food pantry in Delaware as a way to give back to my community.
I enjoyed reading the poem The Lanyard by Billy Collins. I thought the poem was funny and lighthearted and I really enjoyed it. The phrase "And here is your lanyard" stuck out to me because the author repeated it a couple times right after saying something his mother had given him or done for him that he could never repay or come close to giving her. Also the author says in a line "that you can never repay your mother" and I feel that is very true. I owe my mother more than words could describe but I know as a mother myself I never feel my daughter owes me and every meal cooked or diaper changed is well worth the struggles just to be called Mom.

  1. Hey Tia! I really enjoyed reading your post! It was really interesting to read about The Lanyard from the perspective of a mother. Also I think it's really cool that you like to go arrowhead hunting. Good luck in the Social Working field!

  2. Hi Tia, it's cool to see your perspective on the poem since you are a mother yourself. Your future path of being an addictions counselor sounds really interesting and you are the first person I have met that is interested in that! I have never hunted for arrowheads before, but it sounds like an interesting hobby as well.
