I attained a lot of information while actively reading
chapter seven of The Call to Write. This chapter was about profiles and described
how to create proper profiles. Profiles are used to focus on a specific thing
but can be about any time or place as long as it is organized in a way that
makes sense. I also read about how using a single page with images and words is
a preferred way of advertising. The pictures even in earlier chapters always
help in creating emotion for the reader. I liked the example about “Cancer
Alley: The Poisoning of the American South”. I chose this because the image
that it used captured my attention. The picture captured my eye because it
looked like it was haunted by how quiet and abandoned it looks. The wording
used in the article beside the picture was very interesting as well. In the
very first sentence the author talks about how it’s like a bride but then he
corrects himself.
The article I found was about John Legend on CBS News. The
profile focuses on a few of Legend’s songs. The songs it talked about were “All
of Me” and “Glory”. The article was explaining why Legend wrote these songs.
Legend said in the article that he wrote “All of Me” for his wife that he has
been with for 17 months. The song ‘Glory” is about the past of the United
States during the Civil War. The article then goes on to talk about Legend’s
past and how his singing career came to be.

I also thought the image in the essay "Cancer Alley: The poisoning of the American South" was very moving and made me want to read more about it.
